What is the Sports Renovations demo all about?
Sports: Renovations
I ended up getting an email about this game if I was interested in playing it. Because I like games like House Flipper and Powerwash Simulator I thought that it gave off similar vibes so I decided why not? Sports: Renovations was developed by Goat Gamez (which is funny and you will find out later) and published by Dear Villagers. Its Release date is set for March 27th, and I am looking forward to playing the rest of the game for the story.
Story
You start off as a sad lady, watching the news and how they are going to renovate the basketball community center which was the home of The Goats. (See told you!) A basketball team that was great until they sold off their best players and then they weren't so great from what I pieced together from the story. You decided to take matters into your own hands somehow because I guess you are just that powerful of a lady, and renovate the beast of a project. The starting point is, to help others in need of their sporting projects to raise funds to fix your own project.
Tools
Junkwrecker 40.k aka a Sled hammer - You wack things and they magically disappear. This was kind of weird for me because in another simulator game, Zoo Simulator when you destroyed things with your sled hammer you would then have to sweep up your mess. While I do like not having to do that separate task it was weird getting used to it at first.
Hand - These babies aren't just for clapping. But you can pick up larger trash items and chuck them across the area. You have a power meter that will build up and try to make the hope or in this case the dumpters from as far as you can to beat your high score! I have no idea how our character is so strong to chuck a 30-50lbs car jack from across the room but okay you get it.
Paintsplasher 7800X3D - It's a paint gun. Pick a color and go to town. It said there was a way after doing 50% of the job to one-click coat it but I wasn't paying enough attention and couldn't figure it out. I also noticed that it will say complete but will have a streak missed. Of course, that drives me nuts and I have to keep spraying till actually done.
Cleanwin 9000 aka a powerwasher - It is very simple I didn't really see an option to change the spray heads or increase the pressure or anything. I think it's just a simple stream. Each section will need to be completed sometimes you don't even have to do the full thing before it gets clean.
Suxxx 2000 - Sweep up what looks like packing peanut particles everywhere. As you get closer to being done the particles will start to turn blue to what is left making it easier to see.
Trash bag - This thing made me laugh so hard because you think okay pick up the trash. You like suck it into the bag then chuck the bag where you are standing. It's like okay clean a mess to make a mess. Then of course you later have to pick up the bags and put them in the dumpster.
Ladder - Is not available to use, but I assume it's to get to places you can't get to.
First job
I believe a granddaughter wanted to keep the boxing gym open to continue her grandfather's place and it needed some serious cleaning and replacements. The first and last thing you do at any play is take a picture of the main points. It will tell you with boxes what needs to be taken and where it needs to be taken. Then you start with your long list of projects. From power washing a bathroom, picking up junk, adding equipment, painting the walls, replacing things, and painting. You can find collectibles along the way to get more of the history of the place. Then of course, once you are done you get paid.
Thoughts
I like the Sports: Renovations, it is one of those calming, relaxing you complete something and it feels good games. I think it is a major upgrade from other simulator games to have the story behind each place as well. It gives another sense of things to complete and collect. You're not just cleaning up a place but exploring its history along the way. I would like to have used my mouse wheel to change between tools instead of having to use alt. One of my biggest grips with games is the key layout because I have small hands. I have a hard time navigating with WASD and then reaching for things like alt. or ctr. and usually map those keys to buttons on my mouse instead.
There are no reviews in the Steam store for the game yet, but there was a bitter fan wanting the team to go fix a previous game. While another person defended the game saying, "Dude...rude! The game is pretty amazing for a job simulation"
