Ima Survivor - Casual Game Review

Ima Survivor

This game is a super basic survival game. It was developed by Archor Wright and published by Archor Games. Ima Survivor came out on June 11th, 2024 so it's new for sure. It does look like Archor Games has a plethora of games under its umbrella.

Gameplay

In this game, you play as Ima Smith who ended up crashing on a random island. You find this information in the Steam store itself because when you start the game you are just left to your own devices.

You start at a campfire, which is pretty cool since normally you would have to start collecting to do your basic builds. There are starfish and crabs just walking around your feet. So I decided to do what any other normal survival game expert would do, and that is to fill my inventory. After that, I complain that I have no room in my bag.

Stamina seems to last forever, but water and food can go down quickly. Once one of those goes down your health starts to go down fast as well.

I started to explore the island, as I wanted to know where the resources and things were. There are many trees, and then there are rock nodes. Where you can get flint, iron, and stone from. I found that there are pigs, rats, and chickens on the island. They are passive mobs and don't attack unless provoked. They also respawn in the same area.

There are random items around the map to use. Basic axes, some kind of gun, a metal pickaxe, and some fishing rods. the gun does some damage, and will even take trees and other things out. There are also boxes containing resources. I had to figure out where some of the resources came from. Like clay and sand to build some things. There is also a well that provides water.

Once you collect some mats, fiber from the flowers everywhere, and wood from the trees that also drop coconuts. You can start to build a base and all the random things you might need to make more things.

It was a trial and error kind of thing, like can I stick this item in here to do something because I have no clue what it does? While others had recipes. One item even said it could be crafted in a certain place and that wasn't true it has to be dug up. There's a bed you can set as your spawn point, chests, world benches, forges, plant beds, and more.

I used the triangle foundations to make a base in the water, as they seemed to work way better than the normal foundations. Once you get the hammer you can also upgrade each wooded part to stone.

With how much armor and guns there were I would figure you would eventually get attacked by pirates or something.

Map

The map is small, it does list where the player is which is done in a weird way that makes me think that it was meant to be more than just a single-player game, but it's listed as a single-player game so I'm not sure. There is pretty much the main island and the small island you start at.

Thoughts

This game is really basic, it felt to me like while there was stuff to make and do, the only purpose of the game was just to exist. Which was a little hard to play seeing that a lot of the things were given to you. The island isn't big enough, it is super small. If I didn't test the trees I would have ended up with none that respawn as if you destroy the trunk it will not grow back. You have to leave the trunk and wait a while for them to respawn. The gun they give you is just OP and decimates everything on the island so I don't see the point in even making armor. Like I said I would have thought there was going to be a pirate raid or something. Hit boxes are super off, including when trying to destroy tree trunks to make space to build a base. The game is only $0.99 so honestly if you just want to mess around it's something to kill some time. I played it for 3 hours and didn't end up building everything. I'm not sure how to repair tools that break, I also don't know what the rain collector is for seeing there are no weather effects. I'm also not sure how to get some resources as there aren't any hints or clues.
The controls are super weird too, I had to look them up, and even looking at the keybind they made no sense. Half are for controllers and half are for keyboards. I ended up just randomly pressing keys till I found the ones that worked.
