Dune Mechanic : Survive The Steampunk Era Prologue - Casual Game Review

Dune Mechanic: Survive The Steampunk Era Prologue

Dune Mechanic: Survive The Steampunk Era Prologue is a prologue of course, and is more of a factory builder but has a survival aspect. I don't think you will die if you have no food, but you just can't see. It came out on June 13th, 2024, and was developed by Heaven Brotherhood, and published by TheGamesFortress.

Gameplay

You start off crashed, what looks like some kind of stream punk fly machine. Your first task is putting together your first factory machine. This is what will make all the parts for other things you will make. As you follow your task know that some resources are limited so you can't just do whatever you want. In the first playthrough, I ran out of water, with no way to get more, and had to restart.

Back to the factory, the things you need for pretty much each machine are water and wood. There are stick-looking trees all over the place, and a small stash of water in ruins nearby. A cave filled with iron and copper is also close by. This is a small enclosed area, so you can't really get lost. Once you assemble the parts, you'll see that you need water in the engine, you'll also need wood in it to run it. Then you'll need water in the cooler that makes the parts solid, and wood in the smelter. This is where you will also pick the part you are building and throw in the ores. It can only fit 4 ores of the same type so it's important to only put in what you need because you cannot remove them. So if you do put more than you need just make a random part.

Once made the first thing you'll want to do, (and is part of your quest) is make something to get water. The problem with this is once you build the water pump robots start showing up. So you need to shoot or mine them with the pickaxe to kill them before they break one of your machines. You also have to be careful as they can go inside your ship and ruin things in there too. Don't worry you can send a drone to get repair kits, but that costs coins. To make the drone work you also need water and wood. The water pump also needs oil to work. In your ship, once you have all the parts there is an assembler to combine the things.

You'll also be able to make a radio tower, where you can take part in missions. Think tower defense. Place down turrets, and water pumps. to keep the robots away. You'll earn coins this way.

Don't forget to eat and drink water yourself, or your vision will get blurry and you won't be able to run. You also won't be able to see in the middle of sandstorms so make sure you know where you are when one of those starts. I unfortunately had to fight a robot in the middle of one and got kind of lost.

Skills

So you have a few tools, ax, pickaxe, various bottles and barrels of things, and you also have a gun. While using these items you can gain skill points. Once you get enough of these you can increase your skill in that area. A few things cost a lot of points. While others you only need a few points. You will also need crafted copper cog wheels for a few, which can just be made or collected from robots.

Thoughts

I really liked the concept of the game but there was a lot of stuff that needed work. I had to start the game over because I ran out of water, but when I made a new world it started with no water and robots started to attack right away. I had to back out of the game completely and start a new game that way. The gun did not work at all for me. I didn't hear a hit even at point-blank range, I had to use my pickaxe. The eating/drinking needed to be explained earlier than it was I had no clue I even could run until I figured out I could eat and drink. On the first run through the quests got stuck and would not proceed no matter what I did. It was fixed once I started the second playthrough. Other than it being a bit clunky I really liked the concept. It does say it's a prologue so I figure it's pretty much a demo, I do look forward to the full game.
