Palia - Casual Game Review

Palia

This is a newer free-to-play MMO. It was developed and published by Singularity 6 Corporation.

It's a casual MMO in a sense. You can farm, cook, catch bugs, all with friends. I feel like it's Animal Crossing but with more people and things to do.

You can find this game on both PC and the Nintendo Switch. The best part is it's free!

Tools

You have a few tools that will help you in the world, some can not be harvested until you upgrade your tool to a higher level. Makeshift tools don't need to be repaired while higher-level tools do have a durability mechanic to them. So you will have to repair your tools.

Axe - Chops trees

Pick - Mine ores and rocks

Bow - Used to hunt animals

Fishing rod - Used to fish

Watering can - Used to water your crops

Hoe - Used to plow to play crops

Belt - Used for catching bugs

Crafting

There is a wide range of things you can craft, between furniture better tools, and other crafting stations.

Worktable - This is where you can build other crafting stations, furniture,  repair kits, better tools, usable items, and more.

Forge - You refine materials here, like stone into stone bricks, ores into bars, and more.

Basic sawmill - This is where you can turn different kinds of wood into planks.

Campfire - Cook different ingredients into meals.

Storage - Keep your items somewhere. (It's nice because you can use items from storage to craft you don't have to have them on your person.)

Relationships

You can progress your relationships with the characters you find around the map. Be sure to look on the map to see where they are, because a lot of them like to move around. As you level up your relationship with someone you can unlock more quests. These quests can give keys or even items. You can gift the characters by giving them their weekly wants. you can learn to know these items by talking to them.

Shops

There are quite a few shops you can snag items from. You'll be able to do this by finding the cash register in the store. You can also find more shops in Bahira Bay.

Random Events

I'm not sure how often they happen but as I was playing in Bahira Bay everyone had to do a task within a time limit.

Random others

There is of course a shipping bin where you can sell items. There is a friend referral program to get some exclusive items.

Thoughts

Like most MMOs, it's like who gets to the item first. Depending on how many people are on the server you are in there might be some competition to collect certain herbs, ores, and other things. I know I was looking for an item and someone else must have been trying to get the same thing, we ended up meeting up at each item. Some they got some I got.

I'm not sure what you are supposed to do with friends other than just hang out. You can show each other your houses making items for each other. So I would think maybe just grinding mats for each other to progress further.

Of course, any game is better with friends as you can do quests together as well as get lost together.

I really liked the game, the only thing that sucked was waiting for things to craft. It's better to start them and nope out to do something else for a while. Finding some characters sucked too, a few I didn't realize were in Bahira Bay. I was waiting around like they were going to wander on the rest of the map.

If you want to see some of my gameplay go check out my livestream Palia over on YouTube!

The best part is I was in cosplay for the stream. So enjoy me as Tifa's Wall Market dress. For some reason, I kept calling it Night Market. XD
