Best things to get a kid for Christmas!

Need ideas for the Christmas list?

It's the time of year were we don't really know what to get kids.

One sneaky way that I have learned to know what my kids want is to check out their gaming wish list.

Most gaming systems have a wishlist, Nintendo, Steam, and Xbox. Some you might not be able to see publically depending on their privacy settings, just log into their stuff at school and scope their wishlist.

I mean this also only works if they actually fill up their list too.

Xbox:

Go to the Microsoft store, you can do this by pressing the Xbox button the the controller to open the guide and navigate to the store. Then you select lists and then wishlist.

If you have your own Microsoft account you can gift them the game, or you can just snag them an Xbox gift card and mention what they had on their list in the card.

Steam:

If they are on your friends list you can simply navigate to your friends list and view their profile. Then you can find a wish list and view everything they might want to snag. You can just gift it that way. You can also get them a Steam card to get what games they want too.

Nintendo:

Go to the Nintendo e-shop, sign in with the account you want to check, and click on the username in the top corner. Then go to settings and shop menu, when you scroll down there is a wishlist option.

Gifting it

The point of this is to see what games your kids want to either find those games on sale somewhere, gift them the game directly on the console, or snag them a gift card to get the game. I use this method to grab my brother games on Steam for his birthday and Christmas as well. I think that the Oculus also has some kind of gifting system or they used to, but I don't think you can share a wishlist with them. I'm also not sure how Playstations wishlist works as I don't have the newer ones. (I have a PlayStation and PlayStation 2)
If you do the gift card method you can also add a note with it saying "I see you had this (insert game here) on your wishlist here is enough to cover it", kind of thing.

Speaking of wish lists.

Amazon. Make a kids account for your kid and have them add things they want to a wishlist. Then not only do you have some ideas of things that they want, but you can also send that list to family members for ideas. Of course, you would want them to talk to each other if they are going to buy something on the list on Amazon so that multiple things of the same thing are not bought.

Thoughts

I know we want to get our kids things that they like while others might want to get them things that they want their kids to like. If your kids are not into books, don't get them a book because you want them to read. My son wouldn't even read the Minecraft books I got him despite him playing Minecraft every day. But he did enjoy the STEM projects with building small robots. I can understand this "limit screen time" because some kids can get aggressive, but I think at that point there might be other problems than screen time. I don't limit my kids at all. They love to do crafts, board game nights, and do a lot of things as a family. It is more of what they are playing and watching. ANOTHER IDEA

If you aren't interested in buying them more games, another thing you can do is see what games they play the most. Most systems have hour logs for each game. I know I can go to my Steam profile press games on the side and then sort the games by the most played. Somehow I played ESO 847 hours... that's 36 days.
Knowing what games they play the most, or most recently can give you ideas for apparel, and other merchandise for the games that they play and love versus just getting them another game.
